The golf in Italy was introduced in the eighteenth century by the Count of Albany, who played golf in Rome, in Villa Borghese. Afterwards it was built in Rome a field in Villa Doria Pamphili. His frequenters were the members of the British community in Italy.
The Italian Golf Federation was founded in Milan, in 1927, on the initiative of Florence, Palermo, Stresa, Turin and Villa d'Este clubs. In the beginning, it is a private association, but the next year, with 20 golf clubs, its base was moved to Rome.
